The COMESA Court of Justice will participate in the 16th Annual Conference of the Pan African Lawyers Union (PALU), which will take place from 31 August to 2 September 2026 in Cairo, Egypt.

The Court will be represented by Honourable Justice Sitwala Mwanamwambwa, the Judge President, Honourable Justice Woubishet Shiferaw (PhD), the Registrar and other members of staff of the Court.

This year’s conference is held under the theme “The African Lawyer in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Leveraging Technology to Achieve a Just and Prosperous Africa.” The discussions will examine how artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies are reshaping legal practice and the administration of justice on the continent while raising important legal, ethical, governance and regulatory questions.

Established in 2002, PALU brings together Africa’s national and regional bar associations alongside more than a thousand individual lawyers across Africa and in the diaspora. It provides a continental platform for advancing the legal profession, the rule of law, good governance, human rights and Africa’s socio-economic development..

The Court’s attendance forms part of its programme of engagement with the wider African legal community. As the judicial organ of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa, the Court interprets and applies the COMESA Treaty across 21 Member States, and hears cases brought by Member States, the Secretary General, and natural and legal persons resident in the Common Market.
